ROSEMARY BROTON BOYLE

ROSEMARY BROTON BOYLE

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work is as much about process as it is about emotions. In my world imagery is secondary to the act of art making.  Abstract in nature with an underlying visual order encompassing not only an openness and orderliness but embracing chaos from which each of the works evolve. After altering and adjusting the subtleties and the not so subtleties of the mark making I strive for an atmospheric conclusion. In the process I am incessantly juggling balance, color and emotion. In a constant push-pull activity, I paint, building up, destroying, painting over, leaving what I have a relationship with and eagerly searching for new and harmonious kinships.

BIO

Rosemary is widely recognized for her exuberant abstract paintings primarily focused on her inner voice. Her expressive visual language and palette is chromatically saturated in a higher key that strives toward both the mysterious and delight. Rosemary received her BFA in painting and advertising design from the Newhouse School of Communication at Syracuse University and achieved her Masters in painting and psychology at Goddard College in Vt. She taught the arts and art history for 15 years before establishing her studio in Waltham MA. for the next three decades.

Boyle has exhibited nationally and internationally, has studied Flemish Art in Belgium and Holland under a Fulbright Scholarship, as well as independent study at the University of Krakow, Poland; printmaking at The International School of Art in Florence Italy; and encaustic painting in Malaga, Spain. However...."making art is different than studying art and I've been making art for 30+ years primarily in my Waltham MA studio with satellite studios in Truro MA and Santa Fe, NM. My true art education has been that experience within the four walls where my ultimate expressions end in the abstract."
